The Global Game Jam
The Global Game Jam is an event where attendees create a fun, experimental, or just plain crazy game in 46 hours. After a series of keynotes provided by industry luminaires such as Trent Ward and Will Wright, attendees will come up with a game idea & turn that idea into a reality, all while guided by professional game developers. As if that weren't enough, the Global Game Jam has 100s of site in 44 countries around the World, so you'll be making your games with a worldwide community of game creators!
This page is the event for the local Honolulu site for the Global Game Jam. The website for the Global Game Jam itself, can be found here, http://globalgamejam.org/.
Who Should Participate?
The event caters to anyone interested in game creating, including but not limited to professional developers, students and enthusiasts. The most important part is that you have some interest in copmuter games, and that you can either do a bit of art, sound, game design, programming or coffee fetching :-).
Time Schedule
The event kicks off at 5 PM on Friday the 27th with a keynote by Trent Ward, Creative Director at Blue Planet. After the keynotes and announcements, the theme for the global event will be revealed, and there will be idea generation, pitching and group forming sessions. This way we make sure that everyone is part of a group and project that they feel excited about. The event runs until 3 PM Sunday the 29th, when all the game prototypes must be uploaded to the Global Game Jam website. After the games have been uploaded, there will be a local round of presentations so that we can see what everyone has been making.
R&D where the event will be held, will be open 24 hours a day during the event.
Entry Fee
Entry fee is $5 which will be paid at the door. The money goes to upgrading the internet for everybody at the event :-).
